Job descriptionAccount Manager – Financial Services Location: Woodstock, Cape Town. Role Overview- This is a client-facing and delivery-focused position within the financial services team. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple accounts and reporting deliverables simultaneously.
- A high degree of attention to detail, process discipline, and accountability is essential — particularly in ensuring that all content and reporting adhere to client corporate identity (CI) guidelines.
- Key aspects of this role include media pitching, campaign tracking and daily and monthly reporting. While this role is not required to produce content, it is responsible for layout, CI, and managing client changes and approvals.
Key Requirements – Non-Negotiable- Must be process-driven, with excellent time management and attention to workflow and delivery.
- Must be highly proficient in Excel, including pivot tables, data coding, and media tracking/analysis.
- Must be comfortable managing reporting independently – this role does not have Account Executive support; reporting responsibility is shared within the team.
- Must have financial services experience, ideally in personal finance, employee benefits, and retirement (minimum 3-5 years).
Responsibilities- Manage and support multiple financial services clients, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of scope across all accounts.
- Pitch proactive story ideas and thought leadership to financial, business, and consumer media. Track progress and keep accurate reports.
- Track and record coverage and outputs across all client accounts.
- Maintain and update daily, weekly, and monthly status and performance reports.
- Ensure all content and reporting meet client CI, tone, and format requirements.
- Have strong proven relationships with media. Be prepared to call media and develop a relationship.
- Support campaign planning, execution, and post-campaign reporting.
Skills & Competencies- Strong attention to detail – ensuring precision in client deliverables, data, and CI application.
- Excellent Excel skills, including pivot tables, media tracking, and data analysis.
- Organised and process-oriented, able to manage multiple deadlines across clients.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence engaging clients and journalists.
- Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a high-performance environment.
Experience- 3–5 years’ PR or communications experience (agency or in-house.
- Proven ability to plan, execute, and report on PR campaigns.
- Demonstrated success in pitching and securing media coverage.
- Experience in media monitoring, analysis, and evaluation.
- Existing network of relationships with key financial and business journalists.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or English.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Writing samples demonstrating an ability to translate complex financial topics into accessible narratives.
- AMEC-approved qualification (preferred).
- A Certificate in Financial Planning will be an added advantage.
