Data Engineering and Architecture Lead

An exciting opportunity exists for a Data Engineering and Architecture Lead to join the IT team. The successful candidate will lead the design, implementation, and management of enterprise data platforms and architectures, enabling scalable analytics, data integration, and business intelligence capabilities within a modern AWS Cloud environment.

Responsibilities:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• 8+ years’ experience in Data Engineering, Architecture, or a related technical role.
• Proven experience with AWS Cloud Services (S3, Glue, Redshift, EMR, Lambda, Athena).
• Strong programming skills in SQL and Python.
• Advanced understanding of data modelling (Kimball, Data Vault) and ETL/ELT development.
• Experience with DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Previous leadership or team management experience essential.

Qualifications and experience:

• Lead the design and delivery of scalable and secure data architectures aligned with Dis-Chem’s analytics and digital strategies.
• Develop and manage robust data pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from multiple systems.
• Ensure data models and structures support BI, analytics, and AI use cases.
• Collaborate with data science, BI, and business teams to ensure data quality, availability, and performance.
• Define and enforce engineering standards, frameworks, and best practices.
• Drive platform automation, performance optimisation, and cost management.
• Mentor and coach data engineers and architects to build internal capability.
