Roles and responsibilities
  • The Programme Coordinator will lead the Motion Picture School within the broad parameters of the Institution’s strategic directions, in accordance with its regional context and mission, as well as within the guidelines of national policies. The school leadership team under the Dean’s direction has overarching responsibility for:
  • Creating and maintaining a high quality, productive and supportive educational environment for students.
  • The development and implementation of the campus’ strategic and operational plans consistent with Institutional plans.
  • The efficient and effective management and use of resources (human and financial) in accordance with its budget.
  • The efficient and effective management of operational aspects, technical requirements and facilities management.
  • Developing a vision for the campus that reflects, supports and amplifies the Insitutions’ mission.
  • Creating a cohesive and collegial campus structure and environment that supports the campus’ objectives, utilizing the diverse nature of staff, disciplines and activities.
  • Promoting effective working relationships and mutual trust and understanding between the programme and other sections of the Institution.
  • Addressing the varied needs of the professional community in a constantly changing environment.

  • Deliver prescribed curriculum and pedagogical strategies.
  • Maintain prescribed programme timetable and class attendance.
  • Complete prescribed programme assignments and assessments.
  • Manage and deliver facilities/equipment/budgets and prescribed term projects.
  • Manage and deliver programme & statutory requirement reports.
  • Communication skills appropriate to interacting with the staff, public, fee-payers and students.
  • Teaching in other areas of film & television production/practice will be an advantage.
  • English is the medium of instruction however proficiency in one or other African language is an advantage.
  • The position requires someone with drive and initiative who can motivate and guide students.
  • The candidate needs to demonstrate a willingness to embrace AFDA’s unique pedagogy which is the basis of socialized, interdisciplinary learning at AFDA.
