Job description

Purpose

The Operations Manager will oversee the daily operations and logistics of Streetscapes, ensuring that all projects are completed efficiently, on time, within budget and that processes continuously improves.

This role requires an experienced manager and strategic thinker who is also an effective implementer. They will have an interest in social and urban development, driven to join a small, dynamic team making a meaningful impact.

Responsibilities
  • Project management - Lead operations project planning, initiation and implementation, ensuring Streetscapes’ initiatives meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Logistics - Oversee facilities and transport logistics, ensuring functional spaces and smooth operations.
  • Team management: - Guide, mentor and support teams across logistics, admin, and maintenance, fostering a strong team culture.
  • Budget management - Oversee departmental budgeting and ensure resources are used efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Compliance - Ensure compliance with health, safety, and legal regulations, while maintaining operational excellence.
  • HR and IT - Manage outsourced HR and IT functions to ensure smooth, integrated support systems.
  • Administration - Supervise all non-finance administrative functions, ensuring the organisation runs efficiently behind the scenes.
  • Systems and processes -  Set up and/or improve systems, process and policies to support efficient delivery of services
  • Procurement -  Maintain the supplier database and ensure procurement processes are in place and followed
  • Stakeholder relations: - Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and partners
Qualifications and experience
  • NQF level 7 tertiary qualification in a relevant field
  • At least five years in operations, facilities, logistics, or general management.
  • Previous experience in the in the non-profit or social enterprise would be advantageous.
  • Proven experience in managing supplier relationships, outsourced services (e.g. HR, IT)
  • Successful track record of setting up or improving systems and developing standard operating procedures

  • Project management - Skilled in planning and executing projects on time and within budget, even in resource-limited environments.
  • Team leadership and development - Able to support, motivate, and manage diverse teams, often in informal or non-traditional work settings.
  • Adaptability and flexibility – Comfortable working in unpredictable environments with minimal infrastructure or formal systems.
  • Budgeting and resource management – Experienced in developing and managing budgets
  • Compliance and health/safety knowledge – Familiar with basic legal, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Stakeholder management – Skilled in working with external suppliers, community partners, and outsourced service providers.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Problem solving and initiative – Able to think on their feet and come up with practical solutions in real-time.
  • Empathy and social awareness – Comfortable and effective working alongside people facing homelessness, addiction, and trauma.
  • Computer literacy - Highly proficient with MS Office
