In a statement issued by the board on Thursday, 2 December, Prasa said that its board had unanimously decided to resolve to terminate with immediate effect the employment contract of Matthews.

According to the statement, this followed an investigation by senior councel that established whether Matthews deliberately and intentionally failed to disclose material information to Prasa in respect to his dual citizenship.

As per provision in clause 11 of his employment contract, Matthews’ letter of appointment stipulates that his contact of employment will only be confirmed upon him obtaining favourable security clearance.

The State Security Agency (SSA) has since declined to issue Matthews top secret security clearance or any other security clearance.

During the investigation by senior councel, Matthews was afforded an opportunity to present his version both orally and in writing through his lawyer. The finding as contained in the investigation report by senior councel were adverse against Matthews, the statement said.

The board will begin the recruitment process of the Group CEO.
