RBCT exports up 6.2% in October

Coal exports from the Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) rose by 6.2% in October to 5‚563‚800 tons‚ but were down 24.6% from last year's October record shipment of 7‚381‚461 tons.

This brought the year-to-date increase in coal exports up by 7.5% year-on-year (y/y), equivalent to an annualised rate of 65.8m tons.

State-owned freight and logistics group Transnet wants to increase coal exports from the current level of 68m tons a year to 97.5m tons.

Coal deliveries from the mines this year are already running above the annualised level and the stockpile at RBCT is 3‚978‚664 tons.
