Rare wines under the 2009 Nedbank CWG silent hammerTaste exceptional wines, meet top South African winemakers and bid on rare and exclusive collector's wines in a Silent Auction at the 2009 Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) Auction Showcase, to be held on Thursday, 20 August 2009 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). The upbeat jazz sounds of Breakfast Included will accompany the tasting of the 2009 Nedbank CWG Auction wine selection as well as flagship wines from members of the Guild. Bids for the Silent Auction of rare, exclusive and otherwise unobtainable wines, signed by the individual winemakers, from the previous CWG Auctions can then be placed. Some of these rare wines include a Boekenhoutskloof CWG Syrah 2005 and an Overgaauw CWG Cape Vintage Reserve 1998. These wines can only be found in private wine collections, making them highly sought after and exceptionally rare. In addition to sampling superb wines, wine lovers can tuck into oysters, wraps and sushi platters for sale at the Showcase. All the wines on offer at the Auction to be held in October this year are made exclusively for the auction and specially selected by members of the Guild to represent the apex of South African wine achievement that can stand up to the world's best. Distinctly different from wines bottled under the members' own labels, the Guild's Auction wines are selected at a blind tasting and only those showing technical excellence and maturation potential are chosen. This thorough process ensures that every wine boasting the CWG Auction label is a wine of exceptional quality. Proceeds from the Silent Auction will go towards the Nedbank CWG Development Trust. Founded in 1999, the Development Trust assists with education, training and empowerment of young people from previously disadvantaged wine farming communities and includes the Guild's Protégé Programme, a mentorship scheme for young, upcoming winemakers. The Nedbank CWG Auction will be taking place on Saturday, 3 October 2009 at 9am at the Spier Conference Centre in the Stellenbosch Winelands. Interested parties unable to attend can make use of the telephonic bidding services available. The Cape Town Showcase at the CTICC takes place from 6pm - 9pm on Thursday, 20 August. The Johannesburg Showcase takes place on 27 August at The Atrium in Sandton. Tickets cost R100 and include a tasting glass. 2009 Silent Auction Wines
