SA makes Film Lions shortlistCANNES, FRANCE: It's the final countdown... The Film, Titanium and Integrated Lions shortlists have been released for the 55th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, and South Africa features for Film. Winners will be announced at the fourth and final awards ceremony on Saturday night, 21 June 2008, along with the results of the Film Young Lions Competition, Agency of the Year, Network of the Year and Palme d'Or recipients. Commenting on South Africa's Grand Prix win on Wednesday night, 18 June 2008, Jupiter group chairman Graham Warsop says, "The announcement that DDB SA has won the 2008 Cannes Grand Prix for Print confirms South Africa's pre-eminence on the world advertising stage. For a country the size of South Africa with less than 0.5% of world advertising spend to win Cannes Grands Prix for three successive years is quite unprecedented. “What is seminal about this year's achievement is that, for the first time in SA history, the ultimate prize in world advertising has been won by a 100% locally owned agency. We couldn't be more proud of our partners at DDB (SA)”. DDB SA is one of five companies comprising The Jupiter Drawing Room South Africa & Partners, reportedly Africa's largest independent agency group. All five companies - The Jupiter Drawing Room Jhb and CT, Black River FC, DDB SA and MetropolitanRepublic - are 100% SA owned.
MTN Clap, directed by Greg Gray of Velocity Films, has also been selected by Shots as a Cannes Contender. Velocity Films has a further nomination for Y&R Singapore:
