Origin Design gets branding contract for Gambian resort

Durban-based Origin Design, a division of the FCB Group, has been awarded the contract for theme branding of the new R180-million Gambia Sheraton resort and conference centre on the Gambian coast.

The Gambia Sheraton is the most prestigious of several new hotels and entertainment centres either completed or under construction in this West African state, and is expected to usher in a new area of upmarket tourism. The conference centre will also place Gambia on the map as a high-quality venue for international meetings, trade fairs and the like.

Creative Director of Origin Design, Alexis Visser, says his agency's involvement with the ground-breaking project incorporates three-dimensional design, including all way-finding and signage, as well as two-dimensional in-room collateral elements plus identity and theme development of restaurants and the conference centre.

"We have a number of international projects in progress at the moment," Visser says, "including the R7.5-billion Port Ghalib resort community on Egypt's Red Sea coast, another Kharafi development. It's gratifying to know that a Durban-based agency has been recognised and awarded with developments of this stature."

Origin Design offers the full spectrum of design services, including corporate identity, brand identity, packaging, environmental design and way-finding. Recent local projects have included design work Le Franschhoek Hotel and Lagoon Beach Hotel in the Cape, and brand development work for Unilever Advanced Dry Cleaners in Durban.
