The global exhibition organiser Messe München International (MMI) announced that it will be expanding its international network for the construction, machinery and mining sector with the launch of a new trade fair in South Africa in September 2013 to be held at Gallagher Convention Centre. The infrastructure and fullturnkey service solution will be produced by GL events Oasys.

Elaine Crewe, CEO for MMI South Africa (Pty) Ltd and for bauma Africa says: "The exhibition strongly supports the South African announcements of major investments in infrastructure projects amounting to several hundred billion Rand over the next ten years. MMI has a proven track record with shows in Germany, China, and India, . The event will form a new platform for exhibitors to demonstrate construction technology that will advance efficiencies in the sector including machinery for building materials, mining machines and construction vehicles. Management and procurement officers need to be presented with new innovations that will measure up to the expectations of a combination of performance and value of capital equipment for major projects."

GL events Oasys CEO Mark Strydom says: "To be contracted as a supplier to an exhibition well in advance speaks of an organiser that is well experienced in the international world of exhibitions. Having time to prepare for a show of this magnitude allows for a professional partnership and attention to detail. The announcement of bauma Africa 2013 is strategic for the country and allows for a new dimension in the industry. Our success with international exhibitions such as the China Sourcing Fair and infrastructure for major events such as the Nedbank Golf Challenge - both with substantial international interest - demonstrate confidence in our ability as a strategic component to the entire value chain. Our association with GL events, supplier to major events such as the Soccer World Cup and the recent Olympic Games has cascaded new knowledge and innovation into our local armour."

The South African Construction and Mining Equipment Suppliers' Association (CONMESA), along with a range of other national and international associations and organisations, have expressly welcomed the premiere of bauma Africa.

Crewe concludes: "bauma Africa 2013 is expected to attract over 500 exhibitors occupying at least 60 000 m² as well as more than 15,000 sub-Saharan African and international visitors. MMI is one of the world's leading trade fair companies and organises more than 40 trade fairs for capital and consumer goods in Munich alone. With every show the company makes a major marketing investment to ensure that relevant target audiences are well informed of the offering and to satisfy exhibitors with the attendance of quality visitors."
