Gallagher hosts sexiest expo in South Africa

The third Johannesburg Sexpo was recently held at Gallagher Convention Centre, coined as the 'sexiest exhibition on earth'. The exhibition was launched in South Africa in 2007, after having great success around the world.

Says Adolf Venter, Chief Executive of Gallagher: "In a country where HIV/AIDS is an epidemic, sexual health and sexual education is of great concern. Naturally, an exhibition of this kind is notorious, but the focus on sexuality is a positive thing."

With many visiting the show out of curiosity, there was plenty to see. The host of this year's show was Suzie-Q, Miss Nude Australia. Many different types of merchandise were on sale, a 3D Art Gallery was available and there were various seminars held, focusing on sexual health, with subjects such as awareness of sexual health and multiple partners. There were opportunities for wine tasting, romantic spa baths and free advice from sexual health awareness organisations.

Says Silas Howarth, organiser of the show: "We are very strict in terms of the age restriction of 18 and the ID's of all visitors are checked. No prams or even babies are allowed. We saw just over 50 000 people visiting the show over the four days."

John Vlismas, a South African comedian, was also featured at the show, as well as Tracey Simmonds, the UK pole dancer. There were also amateur strip shows and other entertainment on stage.

Concludes Howarth: "The show has something for everyone, even if some of it is a bit tongue in cheek."
