Summary of the position:
Spier Arts Trust has embarked upon a project to offer an internship within the accounting services department. The purpose is to assist in expediting service delivery while providing the intern with essential skills and knowledge in finance within the art business.
Areas of delivery:
- Daily capturing of customers and suppliers from cash book to trial balance
- Creating income statements
- Preparing cash flow statements
- Incorporating general ledger accounts in financial statements
- Processing journals
- Transferring report data from an income statement to a spreadsheet
- Transferring report data from a balance sheet to a spreadsheet
- Assisting with the preparation of financial statements for presentation to management
- Using data to calculate various financial metrics, including:
- Gross profit percentage
- Net profit percentage
- Rate of profitability on total capital investment
- Rate of liquidity
- Stock turnover
- Average collection period of debtors
- Debtors turnover
- Average payment of debtors
- Participating in and completing year-end procedures, including:
- Analysing and interpreting financial statements
- Preparing and submitting internal and external financial statements for management and publication
- Analysing subsidiary journals, general ledger, wages and salaries journals, debtors and creditors accounts, and monthly statements with analysis
- Drawing up cash and analysing budgets
- Evaluating various software packages for auditing and accounting purposes
Requirements:
- Diploma in accounting or finance
- Working knowledge of Pastel Partner
- Proficient in Excel
- Experience in debtors and creditors reconciliation
- Ability to work independently
- Strong team player
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Good problem-solving techniques
- Deadline-driven
- Applicant must be based in Cape Town and have South African citizenship
