Malawi media loses gurus to politics

With Malawi going to the polls on 19 May 2009, two media gurus have resigned from their positions and decided to join the political race as parliamentary contenders.

Innocent Chitosi, national director of the National Media Institute of Southern Africa (NAMISA), which is the Malawi chapter of MISA, resigned from his position over the weekend and will contest as an independent member of parliament for a Blantyre constituency.

This comes barely a few months after chairperson of the National Editors Forum (NEFORM), Robert Jamieson also resigned from his position to join politics and has since been appointed as spokesperson of the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF).
