Grade 5 learner arrives in style at school

It's not every day that a helicopter drops you off at school in front of all your teachers and friends. That's exactly what happened to young Charné Viljoen when radio station OFM in association with Westline Aviation dropped her off at school in a helicopter!

The helicopter ride formed part of the station's ‘the year of your life' campaign for 2010. Breakfast presenters Pieter Möller and Christie Hansen invited learners who want to experience the thrill of a helicopter ride to SMS “school” and the name of their school to the station. The response was overwhelming and Charné, a Grade 5 learner from the Willem Postma Primary school in Bloemfontein was announced as the winner on Thursday.

On Friday morning, 15 January, Charné enjoyed a helicopter ride over the city of Bloemfontein with presenter Pieter Möller, who did crossings to the OFM studio. At school, the helicopter landed on the rugby field and she was welcomed by the OFM street squad, teachers and fellow pupils.

An excited Charné said the whole experience was wonderful and that she loved every moment of it! According to the school's headmaster, Mr Johan Piennaar, the initiative and enthusiasm of OFM is an inspiration to them as teachers, and that they will strive to inspire their learners and make 2010 a great year for all of them.
