Mr SA finalist encourages sweating it out for charity

One of 20 finalists for the Mr South Africa 2013 title, Johannesburg model and businessman Dale Horne is giving back by organising a charity fundraiser to benefit AIDS orphans.

"Each month the Mr South Africa finalists are given a task to complete and May was community outreach month," explains 29-year-old Dale, whose current ranking is near the top of this prestigious group.

Working out for a worthy cause

As working out is one of his passions, S.W.E.A.T.1000 training was a natural choice for Horne's fundraiser, with the support of one of the organisations that endorses him - S.W.E.A.T.1000 Village View in Bedfordview.

More than 120 fitness enthusiasts paid to experience the ultimate one-hour S.W.E.A.T.1000 total body workout organised by Horne and Teena Karpodinis, owner of S.W.E.A.T.1000 Village View on 1 June 2013. A mix of cardio and weights at different intervals and varying levels of intensity, the workout is designed to burn 1000 calories per hour.

"The S.W.E.A.T.1000 Village View studio was decorated with red balloons with four dedicated S.W.E.A.T.1000 workout classes vibed with DJ Khume playing music and passionate instructors motivating the sweatrons," Horne said. "All participants in the fundraiser were given a free USN water bottle and protein bar at the end and everyone had a great time. The event for S.W.E.A.T.1000 Village View gave interested members of the public and sports clubs the chance to try out their programme and experience the difference first-hand. It was a success in every way."

Donations for deserving recipients

The money raised will benefit the Ikholwa Children's Home in Weltevreden Park, which is an orphanage for children with AIDS.

Because everyone who took part in the fundraising workout was invited to donate any clothes they no longer wear, a significant amount of clothing was also given to the 41 orphaned or abandoned children who live at the home and who range in age from 6 months to 14 years.

"These youngsters are incredibly brave despite their circumstances through no fault of their own and deserve all the help they can get," Horne said.

Horne is a director of Whistle Blowers, a company which promotes a culture of honesty and ethics in the workplace throughout South Africa and abroad. He is also an ambassador for Guess men's fashion wear, Ultimate Sports Nutrition supplements (USN) and is on the books of ICE Models.
