Kingsley Holgate, SA legendary man

Kingsley Holgate's efforts to explore the world while changing and saving lives seems to have struck a chord among South African men. 62% of them voted him as the epitome of legendary behaviour in South African men, in a survey run by Captain Morgan Black Label and Sports Illustrated.

SA men chose Kingsley because “he is the ultimate adventurer and has a really good heart”, proving that when it comes to male behaviour, a softer, humanitarian side combined with an adventurous spirit is definitely a sign of a man to emulate. Only 5% of the men surveyed thought being a politician was a sign of being legendary.

“It is clear that while South African men are crazy about sport and enjoy the outdoors, they also admire traits such as generosity and philanthropy. We think that men admire men who are tough but who are still in touch with what they can do to help their community and planet. The other side of the story is that men know that women find this softness unbelievably attractive, so merging adventure and humanitarian activities is bound to become a growing trend in SA men,” says Liam Crause, brand manager for Captain Morgan Black Label.

Kingsley's One Net One Life campaign distributed malaria nets across the continent to help save the lives of women and children in Africa. During his most recent expedition, Boundless Southern Africa, Holgate distributed spectacles to poor-sighted villagers in rural areas, supported the upgrade of soccer fields as well as distributing mobile libraries and LifeStraws, a hand-held water purification system that eliminates over 99.9% of bacteria.

Twenty percent of the respondents said their best mates are most legendary, because they are just like them and only 13% thought that Luke Watson has a personality that is legendary.

The Captain Morgan Legendary Man Survey was conducted over a two week period on the multi-sport website www.simag.co.za.
