Transvideo president Jacques Delacoux and chief engineer Alexander Leuchter received the Scientific and Technical Award for their concept, software and electronic design of the company's video-assist monitors.
The award is given for achievements that produce a definite influence on the advancement of the motion picture industry.
In addition, the multiple award-winning movie Slumdog Millionaires made use of Quantel technology for the digital intermediate treatment, which was carried out by MPC in London.
The project played to Quantel's product strengths as the footage was a mixture of film and digital capture and it was paramount to achieve optimal resolution coexistence. Furthermore the technology's colour and effects tools are said to have proved invaluable as the images were often multi layer and included graphics and subtitles.
The use of the technology's QColor was seen as recognition of the high standard of the Quantel product. Winner of the Best Director award, Danny Boyle, is said to be a regular user of the technology, having previously employed the system on some of his other award-winning projects including Sunshine, Millions and 28 Days Later.
The South African broadcast and motion picture market have access to the award-winning technology through local distributor Questek Broadcast Technology, who supplies solutions to the broadcast and post-production industry.
