The competition, created in 2006 by Big Blue to discover and support local design talent, received over 600 submissions, from which the top 50 were drawn.

Bobani wins R20 000 in cash and her t-shirts, bearing the winning design will be sold in all Big Blue and Kitsch & Kool stores during November and December. She is currently studying a bridging course in graphic design at Learn to Earn in Khayelitsha and it's her dream to study further and become a fully fledged designer one day. Let's hope the R20 000 she's won can help her fulfil her dream

The standard of entries received in this year's Makhulu Polane t-shirt design competition was very high. Many of the submissions for the ‘Love Africa' theme were from professionals/ freelance/ experienced graphic designers, as well as design school students.

James Robertson from Big Blue says, “Now in its fourth year, the competition seems to be gaining credibility as an annual feature on SA's design calendar. This year it was good to note how much work has gone into every design. We received full-scale artworks, embroideries, paintings and computer generated images. In addition to t-shirt prints, we have also received fabric designs and some finely detailed work suitable for stationery or gift-wrap. The good news is that there is large pool of promising design talent in South Africa.”
